Massachusetts State Police: ‘No Apprehension At This Point’

Massachusetts State Police Colonel Tim Alben told reporters that Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is still at large as of Friday afternoon, saying that there “has been no apprehension at this point” during a press conference updating the situation in Boston.

Alben also disclosed that a “controlled explosion” is being planned at a house in Cambridge that has been secured by authorities.

“It’s done out of an abundance of caution,” Alben said. “It’s done for the safety of the law enforcement officials that are over there before they proceed with a search of that premises.”

The brief press conference featured Alben, Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick, Boston mayor Thomas Menino, and Watertown police chief Edward Deveau.

Governor Patrick thanked the public for staying indoors, saying “we know what an inconvenience it is…but it’s been enormously helpful to the many, many law enforcement who are trying to do their job.” He added that “the stay indoors request continues for this time being.”

Chief Deveau echoed his comments, warning that the meticulous search for the suspect may drag on. “It may go today, tomorrow, and into the weekend before we have that whole crime scene under control,” he said.

“We are one city,” Mayor Menino added. “We are gonna get through this.”
